
Makyla Curtis | Printmaking with Nature

Working with nature in print: from nature contact and ghost prints, to botanical dyes and inks to paper-making using plant matter including food waste.
Weāll look at some of the history and precedents of nature-printing, a short survey of artists working with these mediums and processes and then I will discuss my own practice with tips and tricks for printmaking with botanical specimens, the methods I use for botanical inks and dyes and paper-making.
About Makyla Curtis:
Makyla Curtis is a printmaker, bookbinder and poet based in Auckland.⯠She holds a Master of Visual Arts from Auckland University of Technology and a Master of Arts in English from the University of Auckland. She teaches across various disciplines including Art and Design and mentors new letterpress printers at MOTAT. Her textile nature and letterpress printed book a whole story in the eye of the sea won the Supreme Award at Changing Threads, the National Textile and Fibre Arts Awards 2024.
