About

Printopia Festival was established in May 2022 as an annual event to bring together the printmaking community, including artists working in book arts, papermaking, letterpress and stencilling.

Printopia is a step towards our vision of Auckland being one of the leading centres for contemporary printmaking in the Asia-Pacific and globally, inspiring collaboration, research and innovation in the field.

The festival will act as a catalyst to ignite the public’s curiosity of print and reinvigorate the practice in schools, tertiary institutes, and arts organisations.

To encourage new audiences to engage with printmaking though live printing, demos, workshops, artist talks, and the purchase of original art prints.

To support emerging and professional artists who use printmaking techniques in their work by providing exposure and opportunities to build audiences.

To offer networking opportunities for printmakers from across the country to come together and discuss important issues facing the printmaking industry.

The festival’s objective is to deliver a varied programme of events by a range of art practitioners from different backgrounds from across the Asia Pacific that increase participation and encourage new audiences to engage with printmaking.

The aim of the festival is to provide artists with the opportunities to connect with each other through artist talks, exhibitions, performances, workshops and selling and exhibiting their work during the festival.

Equally important is for artists to connect with the public, providing audiences with hands-on learning experiences that inspires further exploration of the process outside of the festival.

Printopia Festival is run by a small team who are passionate about building community through the arts. A Board or Directors and Advisory Board provide valuable guidance and support to the management team.
