Are you looking to enhance your skills in woodblock printing? Join us for a masterclass led by expert Graham Hall, where you’ll develop a comprehensive understanding of the exciting possibilities offered by multiblock printmaking.
Throughout this workshop, you will engage in every step of the process—from carving and inking to printing and refining—gaining insights into how printmakers can push the boundaries of this traditional technique to create dynamic, multi-layered compositions.
A key focus will be mastering the registration process, which ensures the precise alignment of multiple blocks. You will work from a key block that guides the development of subsequent blocks, learning how to achieve accurate layering and colour separation.
Explore how different tools can create a variety of plate textures and discover how subtle variations in ink application can influence the final outcome. You will have the opportunity to experiment with ink surface manipulation techniques, including blending, wiping, and layering to create depth and texture.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll complete three A3-sized blocks and a series of prints on exquisite Awagami Japanese paper. You will leave with a solid foundation in multiblock printing and the skills to further explore this medium in your own artistic practice.
Note: This class is designed for individuals with prior experience using woodblock carving tools, as participants will need to bring a pre-cut key block to the workshop.
